Many of us must have heard the story of “Bundle of sticks”, for those who haven’t, it goes something like this: Once, there was an old man who had three sons. All were hard working, but none of them agreed with each other and quarreled all the time. So, to teach them a lesson, father handed a stick to each of them and asked them if they could break it. All three were able to break it. Then the father handed over a bunch of sticks to each of them and asked them to break the bunch, but none of them could do it. Thus, he explained to them, the power of unity.
As simple as it may seem, the story is true. Till the time one is alone, one can be easily defeated. But, when people unite, defeating them is difficult. A single person is an easier target than may be a fifty more with him/her. What better example of unity should I present than our country India. Our nation has a huge diversity of cultures, religions, language, etc., but still we stand united as one (may it be in India v\s Pakistan matches, or for an anti-corruption movement).
Unity is Strength.
“United we stand, divided we fall.”
– George Pope Morris
Every human is born with a unique talent. If alone, one might not be able to nurture it properly or might not even recognize it, then the talent is bound to be wasted. One talent combined with another can yield to a marvelous and a beautiful result. It is when people perform together, work as a team that huge accomplishments are made.
“I can do things you cannot, You can do things I cannot,
Together we can do great things.”
We often talk about things like teamwork. Take Cricket for an example, commentators, coaches, experts, captains always talk about “the right combination” that can lead the team to a victory, depending on conditions of the play. That so called “right combination” is because the players jell together, their talents are optimum as per the playing conditions, and ones performance can help the other. That’s why TEAM is also defined as “Together Everyone Achieves More“.
“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
– Henry Ford
To conclude, a few lines…
We are born alone, but we don’t have to be,
reason for two hands is to hold other beings.
Together we can stand, straight and free,
alone we might fall in a crowded street.
Even little ants, work in teams,
and on a rainy day, share the food they eat.
